The Paint Branch baseball team upended Damascus, 10-4, in Wednesday’s 3A West region semifinals.
Paint Branch (15-3) did not play Damascus during the regular season as the because of rain but made the most of its only opportunity this season.
The Panthers, who had won 10 straight games dating back to April 16 against Bethesda-Chevy Chase, advance to play at top-seeded Frederick at 1 p.m. Friday.
“When we pitch and play good defense we feel like we can play with anybody in the state,” Paint Branch Coach Tommy Rey said via email.
Paint Branch senior Mike Noyes pitched a complete game for the win improving his record to 8-1.
Junior Todd Schultz went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI's and a double. Noyes collected 4 RBI's and scored 2 runs. Freshmen William Smith had 2 RBI's.
“We played good defense and Noyes threw the ball well,” Rey said. “I really enjoy this group of guys. They give 100 percent on the field.”
