Attica is coming off a 14-13 season in 2007 that saw a young pitching staff come of age. That staff is back and that spells big trouble for Wabash River Conference rivals. If the Red Ramblers can find a way to score runs, they will be a strong force in the league race.

Coach P.J. Stoll enters his seventh year at the helm. He is hoping for big things from a very experienced squad. Attica returns seven starters from last season’s team and a pitching staff that is nearly intact from a year ago.

That staff is led by All-Conference right –hander Matt Wolfe. Just to bring a few more worry lines to the brow of opposing WRC coaches, Wolfe is only a junior. He will be joined by senior Justin Capps, also a right-hander. Duties from the left side will be handled by junior Zach Stewart.

When it is their turn with the sticks, Attica will be led by sophomore catcher Seth Rose. All Rose did as a freshman was hit .427. You can rest assured that Capps will also find a place to play when he is not on the mound. He swung at a .310 clip last season. The third big bat n the lineup is outfielder Cory Reece. Reece hit .333 on the campaign last year.

Stoll points to the pitching as being the strength of this Red rambler team. He also believes experience will equate to strong defense. The question is whether Attica can find a way to consistently score. Despite the hefty batting averages of some of the returning veterans, they had problems in that area last season. It may take a while, but look for the bats to catch up with the other parts of Attica’s game as the season progresses.

Stoll points to the home and home series with Rockville as one of the key points in the season. Attica travels to Rockville on April April 17th. The Rox return visit to Attica is on May 7th. Another key stretch of the season is the Red Ramblers annual southern swing. After opening on the 25th of this month at North Montgomery, they take off the next weekend for tilts in Bloomfield and then a Saturday round robin with Washington Catholic and Eastern Greene. The trip will be an early indication of Attica’s strength this year.
