What is a committee?

At Atholton High School, the FBLA organizes itself into committees, or groups of people. Each committee has a committee chair that acts as the president of that group. The committees are assigned an event during the year and are responsible for organizing and running that event.

What types of events does FBLA do?

FBLA has four main committees, each responsible for one of the four major events.
  • Blood Drive - The Atholton Blood Drive is held anually at the begining of November. For the 2008 - 2009 school year, the Blood Drive will occur on Friday November 7th, 2008. The committee creates posters advertising the Blood Drive and works with the Red Cross Club to encourage students and staff members to give blood, by passing out forms during lunch. The committee is then responsible for organizing the donation schedule. On the day of the Blood Drive, committee members run the registration table and help distribute shirts, snacks, and drinks.
  • Coffee House - The Atholton Coffee House is a school-wide social event that is held in the cafeteria after school. For the 2008 - 2009 school year, the Coffee House will occur in mid-November. It is a chance for students to hang out, eat food, and enjoy local bands and other live entertainment. The committee for this event is responsible for auditioning performers, selling tickets, and advertising. On the night of the Coffee House, committee members just kick back and enjoy being with their friends.
  • Joe Corbi's Sales - Joe Corbi's is the annual FBLA fundraiser. Joe Corbi's sells mostly pizza and cookies. Everyone in FBLA is encouraged to sell to their teachers, families, and friends. The more money that is earned, the less field trips and competitions cost.
  • Field Trips - Two years ago, FBLA took a field trip to New York City. They got a tour of the CNN Money room, the NASDAQ building, and got to watch a live taping of the show "CNN's Fast Money". They also got to see the opening bell ceremony. Some of the highlights of the trip were seeing the Atholton Logo on the largest screen in Time Square and shopping in the Time Warner Building! These are the kind of things that the Field Trip Committee is responsible for planning.

How can I get on one of these committees?

You can fill out the FBLA Member Profile Sheet and circle the committee that you wish to be a part of. Or, talk to Mr. Griffin or Mrs. Green about who the committee chair is and how to get in touch with them.
