Ashburn (Oct. 20, 2008) - The Stone Bridge High School volleyball team remained unbeaten in AAA Liberty District play with a 25-18, 25-16, 18-25, 25-19 win over McLean last Thursday at home.
Stone Bridge started off the season with a tough non-district schedule and were just 3-9 entering district play but the Bulldogs are 4-0 in the Liberty and have now won five straight matches including Thursday's win over the Highlianders.
It was the second loss in three days for a McLean team that opened the year 9-2 before falling to Langley and Stone Bridge. The Highlanders are 3-2 in the Liberty District.
Lily Vera had a big match against McLean with 38 assists, seven service points (one ace), six digs and six blocks. The balanced SB attack featured Sarah Norton (11 kills, 6 blocks, 6 points, 1 ace), Christine Beckham (10 kills, 13 points, 3 aces, 9 digs) and Amanda Miller (9 kills, 3 blocks, 8 points, 2 aces, 12 digs).
Lindsay Gill paced the defense with 19 digs. Also for the Bulldogs: Vanessa Paige had four kills, six points, three aces and 16 digs. Alexis Chism finished with three kills and three blocks.
