The top 25 players were selected by a committee of  high school coaches from North Carolina after a three hour evaluation process on May 31 at Smith Athletic Field Complex in Greensboro, North Carolina that included individual position drills, time-testing for speed and a series of scrimmages.  Registration for the on-field evaluation was open to all high school underclassmen players entering grades 10,11 and 12.

The adidas National Lacrosse Classic features the top high school underclassmen lacrosse players in the country.  Sixteen regional teams, including Greensboro, will compete for a National Championship, July 18-20, 2008 at the Maryland Soccerplex in Germantown, Maryland to determine the best region of high school lacrosse players in the United States.

The winner of the adidas National Lacrosse Classic will play against Canada for the Brogden Cup in Orlando, Florida December 5-8, 2008 to determine the best region of high school lacrosse players in North America.

Head lacrosse coach of West Guilford High School, Dirk Lambertson and Charlotte Catholic High School head lacrosse coach Bo Turner have been named to coach the Southeast Regional team in this summer’s adidas National High School Lacrosse Classic.

Coach Dirk Lambertson comments on his selection. “I am extremely honored to be asked to coach the Greensboro, NC based southeast regional team in such a prestigious and ground breaking tournament.  Being able to get involved with the Adidas showcase tournament in the inaugural year is a privilege, and I am proud to be able to represent North Carolina Lacrosse. I am excited to work with some of the top lacrosse players in the southeast region of the United States and share our devotion to the game.”

The event holds meaning for the players. “Adidas is giving these athletes the access to colleges, universities and lacrosse programs from throughout the country whom they would normally not get a chance to see. This tournament gives hundreds of players nationwide the opportunity to travel and play against the best players in the nation. Players will get a chance to showcase their abilities and the range of talent from each particular region.  Not only are these athletes playing for themselves, but they are also representing the region.  If a player is exposed to the best players, is playing and practicing against the best, the performance level of all the players will rise” according to  Lambertson.

With a coaching record of 156-60, Dirk Lambertson, 2006 North Carolina State Coach of the Year guided West Guilford High School’s lacrosse team to the 2007 North Carolina State Lacrosse Championship.  Coach Lambertson is regarded as a highly accomplished lacrosse coach receiving recognition and honors as Conference Coach of the Year in five times since 1999. West Guildford reached the State Lacrosse semifinals and finals six times since 1997.

Bo Turner brings an impressive coaching background with record of 240-90. He directed Charlotte Catholic High School to the 2005 North Carolina State 2A/3A State Lacrosse Championship. A consistent winner, Coach Turner’s teams have reached the 2007, 2006 and 2005 State lacrosse semifinals and finals.

Coach of the 2007 North Carolina State Games team, Great 38 All-Star team and Charlotte Queen City Top 50 All-Star Game, Turner finds meaning in the inaugural adidas National High School Lacrosse Classic. "The high school underclassmen lacrosse players in the North Carolina region have a special opportunity to showcase their style of play, gain exposure to the college admissions and athletic recruitment process and be recognized for their high level of play” says Turner.
