ALL SET IN ROCHESTER AS ROSTER IS ANNOUNCED

Whipple brothers set to lead a strong contender for the ANLC crown.

The top players were selected by a committee of New York high school coaches after a three hour evaluation process at Irondequoit High School in Rochester, New York that included individual position drills, time-testing for speed and a series of scrimmages.  Registration for the on-field evaluation was open to all high school underclassmen players entering grades 10,11 and 12.

The adidas National Lacrosse Classic features the top high school underclassmen lacrosse players in the country.  Sixteen regional teams, including Rochester, will compete for a National Championship, July 18-20, 2008 at the Maryland Soccerplex in Germantown, Maryland to determine the best region of high school lacrosse players in the United States.

The winner of the adidas National Lacrosse Classic will play against Canada for the Brogden Cup in Orlando, Florida December 5-8, 2008 to determine the best region of high school lacrosse players in North America.

Brothers Craig and Andy Whipple have been named to coach the Northeast region Rochester team in this summer’s adidas National High School Lacrosse Classic.

Coach Craig Whipple is a 1995 graduate from Irondequoit High School. While a member of the Irondequoit lacrosse program, Coach Whipple won four sectional titles and was selected as a member of the All County Team three years in a row. Coach Whipple also represented Western New York in the Empire State Games. In his senior season, he was selected as the Section V Tournament's Most Valuable Player. Coach Whipple then went on to play at Division III's perennial powerhouse, RIT, were he was selected as ECAC's Most Valuable Player as well as being selected to the Super Six All Conference Team three times. In his senior season, he was selected to the All-American team and represented RIT in the North - South all star game. After his colligate career, Coach Whipple was selected 44TH over all in the NLL Draft and went on to play professionally with the Rochester Knighthawks. Along with his playing experience, Coach Whipple has several years of coaching experience at the colligate and high school level. After graduating from college, Coach Whipple returned to RIT to be named Assistant Head Coach along side of Coach and mentor Guy Van Arsdale. When Van Arsdale left to coach professionally, Coach Whipple and Assistant Coach Andrew Cooney became interim head coaches for RIT. After leaving coaching at the colligate level, Coach Whipple returned to the High School level where for two seasons where he was the Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for Pittsford High School along side his brother Andrew. In 2007, Coach Whipple returned to his alma matter, Irondequoit, to revive a once proud program. In his first year as Head Coach of the Eagles, Coach Whipple guided them to a Sectional Five Title and 19-3 record before losing to West Genesee in the state Semifinals. Along with the Section Five title, Coach Whipple also won the All-Greater Rochester Coach of the Year Honors and was a speaker at the 2008 National Lacrosse Conference.   
 
Former University of Maryland men's lacrosse and Professional NLL star Andrew Whipple will coach the adidas National Lacrosse Classic Rochester team. Coach Whipple served as an assistant coach at Division II Bryant College (R.I.)  and is currently head lacrosse coach at Pittsford High School in Rochester, New York. He also played for the Albany Attack of the NLL (playing in two games, scoring one goal and adding one assist). In 1999, Whipple served as a student-assistant coach at Maryland while he completed his degree. While at the University of Maryland Whipple starred for the Terps from 1995-98. He was named a USILA third team All-American as a senior in 1998. He was also named an honorable mention Alll-American in 1996 and 1997. He was named ACC Rookie of the Year in 1995 and earned All-ACC honors in 1996. He was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament team in 1997. Whipple led the Terps to the NCAA championships game three times in 1995, 1997 and 1998.
He finished his career as the eighth all-time leading scorer in school history with 190 points, He ranks tied for 12th in all-time goals with 93 and seventh all-time in assists with 97.

As a senior, he recorded 62 points, scoring 22 goals and handing out a team-high 40 assists in 1998. Those 40 assists also marked his best total in fur seasons at Maryland. He equaled his career high in goals with 24 as a junior in 1997. He also tallied 23 assists for 47 points as a junior. In his sophomore season he scored 23 goals to go along with 14 assists for 37 points in 1996. As a freshman, when he was named AC Rookie of the Year, he notched 24 goals and finished with 44 points, assisting on 20 goals.
