The team selected by a vote of conference coaches included just one other freshman. For the season, Cranford posted a record of 19-3 in singles competition, including a 9-2 mark in the No. 1 position. He finished the year second in the conference in total singles wins, second in the conference in winning percentage at No. 1 singles, and fourth in the conference in winning percentage for all singles matches.
At John Carroll, Cranford was named All-MIAA four times and he advanced to the semifinals or finals, playing No. 1 and No. 2 singles, three years in a row.
