The Yankee Rebels, under 19 team got seven RBI from Tony and Mike
Perez of DeMatha, and Rob Cieslak went five innings as the Rebels beat the Putty Hill under 17 team, 10-5, in the Baltimore Metro League, on
Tuesday night at Catonsville Community College.
Mike Perez, who graduated from DeMatha this week, walloped a three-run homer in the
third inning to give his team a 4-2 lead, and he added a sac-fly in the
sixth, when the Rebels scored five times, to put the game out of reach.
"I caught a high fastball, out of the strike zone, just went with, and it got out," said the big third baseman, who came on in the sixth to get the last two outs after Putty Hill loaded the bases.
Brother Tony, had two hits in a lead-off role for coach Steve Marsh, and
he drove in three on the night, two of which came in the big sixth inning, when he singled home two teammates. Tony
will be a senior next season with the Stags, the WCAC baseball champs
this past
spring.
Rob Cieslak, who played on a freshmen championship team at Calvert Hall,
stopped Putty Hill on three hits over five innings. Cieslak, who will
graduate from the Hall on Sunday at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, fanned seven.
"I had a good fastball tonight and was able to get ahead of the hitters. That was the key," said the right-hander.
Center-fielder Ian Kramer chipped in with two hits in the ten hit attack as the Rebels improved to 2-2 on the season.
Putty Hill shortstop Andrew Keyser, who played on the Park School team
that made it to the MIAA B Conference finals last week at Ripken Stadium, where the Bruins narrowly lost to Boys Latin, 3-2, had two hits, one of
which was a booming 375 foot ground rule double in the top of the
seventh.
"We had a team meeting after the loss to St.Mary's, and we made a nice run through the losers bracket," said the Putty Hill clean-up hitter." "It was a great thrill to play in the finals at Ripken Stadium, he added.
