Good Counsel senior setter Brighid Casey carried the massive Washington Catholic Athletic Conference volleyball trophy around the court. The nearly 4-foot trophy rested on her hip during the Falcons' post-game talk. It sat right in front of her as she posed for pictures with her teammates. Everywhere she went, the trophy followed. The Good Counsel senior certainly earned the right to claim ownership. Minutes earlier, the Good Counsel volleyball team, led by Casey and teammate Rebecca West, completed a three-game sweep of Paul VI, 25-15, 25-8, 25-12, to earn their third consecutive WCAC title.
"We have all worked so hard to get up to this level," said Casey.

"We have all worked so hard to get up to this level," said Casey.
"It means a lot because it is the last one that we are ever going to get to have," added West, who clutched the Falcons' 2008 WCAC championship plaque just as tightly as Casey held the trophy.
The traveling trophy, which has been housed at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School for the past year, will be heading right back to it's familiar spot in the Falcons' trophy case thanks to a perfect 23-0 season for the Falcons, who have not dropped a match since 2006.
"We’ve just tried to build something and have everybody have a good time," said Good Counsel head coach Karen Kart of her squad dominance over the past three years. "We had a really good time today."
As has been the case for much of the past four years, Casey and West shined against Paul VI (16-4). Casey recorded 31 assists against the Panthers. Over a third went to West, who finished with a team-high 12 kills.
"I can’t tell you how hard both of them have worked," said Kart of her two senior leaders and WCAC Co-Players of the Year. "The court experience of Brighid and Becky is something that set the tempo and the tone for our program. They are two people that we looked at when they were young to be the leaders for today. One of the testaments that we have to our program is that these seniors are going to leave a legacy behind of hard work and dedication."
As much as Casey, West and fellow graduating senior Lawryn Fowler set the tempo for the Falcons this year, the team's underclassman showed against Paul VI that they plan on continuing their winning ways for years to come.
"We are just chock full of youth," said Kart, whose squad currently has four juniors, five sophomores and four freshman. "There are a lot of girls that could easily dominate J.V., but we don’t let them do that because we want them to be ready to go. It’s that youth that we are going to rely on to keep building and sustain the tradition that these seniors are leaving behind."
