Ashburn (Jan. 24, 2009) - Stone Bridge High School football coach Mickey Thompson confirmed Saturday that Virginia Tech has offered Bulldog senior Nick Sheehan preferred walk-on status next year.

Sheehan, who transferred to Stone Bridge from Loudoun Valley prior to this senior season and helped the Bulldogs to 13 straight victories before falling in the AAA Division 5 state semifinals to eventual champion Phoebus, would join a growing list of Bulldogs at the Blacksburg school.

Offensive lineman Ed Wang and defensive back Jeron Gouveia are already at the school and Wang's younger brother, David Wang, will play for the Hokies next year.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Sheehan, also a standout on the track, helped the Bulldogs allow just 88 points in the regular season, including only 27 points over the final five regular season games and the Bulldogs gave up just 13 total points while sweeping three games to claim a second straight Northern Region title and third Northern Region title in four years since moving up in classification to AAA from AA.

Sheehan is also the second Loudoun Valley transfer to earn a preferred walk-on offer after just a single season with the Bulldogs as Matt Custer earlier received a preferred walk-on offer from the University of Maryland. Custer plays offensive line at 6-5, 285.
