We kick off our 2008 football previews with the Patriot Division, which had three teams reach state sectional finals in 2007, and one of them, Asbury Park, bring home a title. The Blue Bishops return loaded up for another run, and this time they are not in a sharing mood, as the 2007 title was shared by Asbury Park, Rumson-Fair Haven and Keansburg. The division also welcomes Monsignor Donovan, which moves down from the National Division and looks to be a darkhorse contender for the title.
We will look at the division as a whole and give our predicted order of finish during our season-opening package in the week leading up to opening weekend, so make sure to check back for that. Below are our team-by-team breakdowns with projected starters, photos, video interviews and more.
MATER DEI - Fighting the Good Fight
On the heels of an 0-10 season in a program with small numbers, Mater Dei is looking for some positive signs of a turnaround in 2008.
ASBURY PARK - Baby Blue Wrecking Crew
One of the Shore's most exciting teams is geared up for a run at a second straight state sectional championship.
RUMSON-FAIR HAVEN - Getting Defensive
After graduating a large and talented senior class, Rumson-Fair Haven and its promising defense are looking to continue their winning ways.
KEANSBURG - The Next Generation
With only two returning starters from last year's Central Jersey Group I finalists, Keansburg will debut almost a whole new team in 2008.
KEYPORT - Ready to Push Back
A bulked-up and experienced offensive line looks to lead the way to Keyport's resurgence in the Patriot Division.
POINT BEACH - Learning to Fly
After losing most of their top players to graduation, the Garnet Gulls will be looking to a big group of underclassmen to step forward
SHORE REGIONAL - True Blue
With a host of returning starters, the Blue Devils squad is looking to get back to the playoffs.
MONSIGNOR DONOVAN - Climbing the Ladder
After making a big jump with a four-win improvement, the Griffins are ready to take the next step and compete for a playoff spot.
