Atlee's
Rebekah Ferguson was the seventh seed in the Capital District girls singles tournament.
Now she finds herself in the Central Region semifinals.
Ferguson defeated Prince George's
Elizabeth Walsh 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) in the quarters on Monday at James River High School.
Walsh was the Central District champion.
Ferguson will face Mills Godwin's
Nicole Parker, who was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Dominion District champion
Sarah Stafford (James River).
On the other side of the bracket defending region and Colonial District champ
Katie Blow (Mills Godwin) advanced with a 6-0, 6-0 win over James River's
Kim Morrisett.
Blow now meets Matoaca's
Darya Uzzell.
Uzzell got by Capital District champion
Shao-Ching Tu (Atlee) 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles, Stafford and Morrisett beat Dinwiddie's
Kayla Diaz and
Leanne Tucker 6-2, 6-0. They move on to play Mills Godwin's
Cathleen Crouch and
Meg Kristofak, who were 6-3, 6-3 victors over Tu and Ferguson.
Blow and Parker teamed up to top Hanover's
Nicole Holler and
Kaitlyn Whitaker 6-1, 6-1.
Their opponents in the semis will be Midlothian's
Elyse Anderson and
Lauren Baxter. Anderson and Baxter bounced Walsh and
Stephanie Edlin 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.
The singles semifinals will begin at noon at James River while the doubles will follow at 3 p.m.
