LAUREN VINSON
Prince George
When the chips were down, Lauren Vinson was at her best.Prince George
A few of her greatest hits for the 2009 season: A two-RBI single to beat Thomas Dale in the eighth inning, giving Prince George the regular-season title.
Pitching 21 innings in one day, 14 for a state tournament bid in a win over Cosby and seven more against Atlee in the Central Region title game that the Royals won.
Runner on second and third, one out, top of the seventh, Vinson strikes out the final two batters to move PG to the state semis.
There are more examples, but Vinson had a player-of-the-year season as the Royals touched heights it never had.
Vinson led the team in a bunch of categories, including hits (30), average (.366) and RBI (17). She struck out 290 batters going 20-4.
"This season didn't start out great for us," Vinson said. "We went out with a bang. We came together towards the end of the season."
