Sparked by the team's best all-around defensive effort of the season, the Key School boys basketball team defeated visitor Park by 14 points, limiting the Bruins to just 15 first half points.
Seniors Jake Maldonado, Anthony Fusco and Brendan Schrader and juinors Harrison Barton, Chris Fusco and Isaac Anthony paced that defensive attack that saw the Obezags (8-8, 6-3 MIAA C) shave off 39 points from the teams' first meeting, a 79-78 Park victory in December.
Offensively, Maldonado and Barton led the way with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Anthony came off the bech to score seven big points with senior Charlie Flanagan, who had 24 points in the first meeting, sidelined most of the game with a shoulder injury.
The victory keeps Key in the playoff hunt, trailing leaders Chapelgate Christian (6-2 MIAA C) and Saints Peter & Paul (6-2 MIAA C) by a game in the loss column. The Obezags split with Peter & Paul and defeated Chapelgate, 47-42, in December and will play it again Friday.
