This game started out like the last several for the
Colonials. The Woodson Cavaliers scored
9 unanswered runs in the first two innings to put the Colonials into another
deep hole. Unlike the earlier contests,
however, only one infield Colonial error contributed to the deficit. But a glimmer of hope for the game, and maybe
the rest of the season as this young team continues to mature, was displayed in
the top of the third inning. Beau
Pritchett singled but was cut down attempting to get to second on a Cavalier
miscue. J. B. Vande Sand and Tom
Rudelius then worked the Cavalier’s pitcher for walks. After a second out, Jeff Siebach singled to
load the bases but a fly ball to center field ended the Colonials threat. But the inning set the stage for the
Colonials fourth and fifth inning. They
scored a lone run in the fourth when J. B. Vande Sand singled to drive in
Jonathan Wildes from second base. J. B.,
who was moved to the leadoff batting position by Coach Gardziel for the first
time this season, added two more RBIs in the fifth with another single to go 2
for 3 on the night. Tom “Woodie”
Woodruff and Mason Freedman also collected two hits a piece for the Colonials.
