Chris Kilgore retired the side in the top of the first
inning leaving the door open for the Thomas Jefferson Colonials to take a lead
in the bottom of the first. J.B. Vande
Sand led off with a single to left field and Tom Rudelius worked a walk from
the Warhawks starting pitcher, Ted Williams.
A wild pitch later, the Colonials had runners primed to score on second base
and third base with no outs. Two
grounders back to the mound and an inning ending strikeout ended the Colonial
threat. The Warhawks responded by scoring two runs in the second, three runs in
the third, and four runs in the fourth.
Their streak--going for five runs in the fifth inning-- was denied by the
Colonial’s relief pitcher, freshman Patrick Still, whose wicked curve ball was
primarily responsible for retiring the Warhawks side in the top of the fifth
inning. Patrick went on to pitch two
more hitless and scoreless innings to complete the game on the mound for the
Colonials. Beau Pritchett and Alex
Radcliffe also had hits for Thomas Jefferson in the game.
