A pre-game ceremony was held to honor the four departing TJ
seniors on the team:
Beau Pritchett,
Alex Radcliffe, Tom Ruedlius, and J. B. Vande Sand.
Junior Mason Freedman started on the mound
and held the explosive Woodson Cavaliers to a lone run in the top of the first
inning.
The Thomas Jefferson Colonials
responded in the bottom of the first when the first two hitters, J.B. Vande
Sand and Tom Ruedlius drew walks off of the Cavaliers starting pitcher, John
McGillicuddy.
Alex Radcliffe then
singled home J.B. to notch an RBI.
The
Cavaliers scored another run in the top of the second.
The Colonials threatened in the bottom of the
second when Patrick Still walked and J. B. Vande Sand singled which turned out
to be the only other hit by the Colonials on the night.
Four Cavalier pitchers, however, issued a
total of nine walks to the Colonials on the night.
Coach Gardziel relieved Mason Freedman at the
start of the third inning to save Mason’s arm for the upcoming Liberty District
Tournament.
The Cavaliers immediately
took advantage of the change on the mound by unloading for six runs in the
third inning and again in the fourth inning.
The Colonials will face the Cavaliers for the third time
this season on the Cavaliers home field on Wednesday, May 14th, in
the first district tournament game for both teams.
