3:57: Osbourn has heading back into the locker room. Ten minutes until kickoff.

3:45: We’re just about 20 minutes away from kickoff. Both team are out on the field. Osbourn made sure to let Oscar Smith know how scared they are of the Tigers by chanting towards them at midfield. The Tigers responded by walking towards midfield as well. Both teams are fired up. The snowfall has picked up considerably. I take back what I said earlier. It looks like it could affect the running game today.

2:55: It’s official. Phoebus beats Dinwiddie, 37-13.

2:35: Some stats on Oscar Smith. Quarterback Phillip Sims, who holds the AAA playoff passing record with 480 against Westfield last year, has 2,833 yards passing this year with 32 touchdowns. Receiver Tim Smith has 67 catches for 1,457 yards and running back Perry Jones has rushed for 1,457 yards this year — 799 in the postseason.

2:29: 28-yard touchdown pass from Boyd to Chaz Robinson. Phoebus is now up 37-6. Dinwiddie fans are heading to the exits.

2:21: Phoebus running back Shawne Alston rushes 32 yards for a touchdown to give Phoebus a 30-6 lead. Alston now has 203 yards on the ground. Looks like this game is all but over. Osbourn now stands in the way of an Eastern Region sweep in AAA.

2:19: End of third quarter for the Div. 5 title game. Phoebus leads 24-6. One more quarter until the main event.

2:10: Some more required reading before the game. Check out DigitalSports.com’s game story from Osbourn’s semifinal win over Varina. DigitalSports was also there when Oscar Smith took down Oakton. The Potomac News has three great articles previewing today’s game. The Virginian-Pilot previews the game from the Tigers’ point of view.

2:01: Phoebus just went up 23-6 on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Tajh Boyd to Omyn Newkirk. Phoebus has now scored over 700 points this season.

1:56: For those keeping track at home, Osbourn is currently 9-4 on the year and is riding a six-game win streak dating back to Oct. 24 at Loudoun Valley. The Eagles have scored 355 points on the year, while allowing 270. Oscar Smith, on the other hand, is undefeated on the year at 14-0. Their last loss came just over a year ago against Westfield in the 2007 state semis. The Tigers have scored an impressive 563 points and have allowed 92.

1:46: As an eagle-eyed reporter behind me in the press box has pointed out, Oscar Smith has 32 kids listed over 200 pounds on their roster. Osbourn has 10. It may be a telling stat, but ask senior center Travis Bruns on senior nose guard Tyler Brown how much the size advantage helped Varina last week.

1:43: While you wait for kickoff, why not read about how Osbourn’s offense has evolved under head coach Steve Schultze since 2002. It’s an interesting read, if I do say so myself. Phoebus and Dinwiddie have just started the second half of their Div. 5 championship game. Phoebus leads 14-6 and just received a kickoff to start the second half.

1:40: Ladies and gentlemen, we have snow flurries in Blacksburg. It’s just a tiny bit and shouldn’t have any effect on the game, but it’s still exciting. Nothing like playing high school football in December.

1:25: Paul Frommelt from DigitalSports.com live from Lane Stadium at Virginia Tech. The Osbourn Eagles and Oscar Smith Tigers will kickoff in just about two and a half hours to decide the 2008 AAA Div. 6 state champion. Make sure to check back throughout the day for up-to-the-minute updates from the game.
