Bethesda-Chevy Chase gymnastics pulled out a third straight state title Tuesday without its biggest star, defending state champion Ebony Walters.

The Barons travelled to Sherwood High School to meet Blair, Severna Park, Chesapeake and two All Star teams, one from Montgomery County and the other from Anne Arundel County.

The team competition in this Bi-County/State Championship was closely matched as Walters was away at the National Level 10 USA Gymnastics meet. But the rest of the B-CC team pulled together and brought home first place with a team score of 167.4.

Blair High School placed second with 163.075, Severna Park came in third with 156.025 points and Chesapeake was fourth with 131.35 points.

Blake's Nicole Williams won the All-Around crown after placing second at the Montgomery County meet.

The six places awarded in each event and all around were spread between 10 gymnasts from seven schools.

B-CC's sophomore Julie Siegel placed sixth in All-Around with 35.525 points. Siegel took third on Floor with 9.25, third on beam with 9.275, and sixth on bars with 8.4. Her vault scored 8.6.

Barons junior Steph Golob had a 33.45 all around and 8.2 on vault, 8.05 on bars,  8 on floor, and fourth place on beam with a 9.2.

B-CC junior Lydia Marks finished seventh All-Around in the meet with 34.35 and just missed placing on floor with 9.0 and on beam with 8.9. Marks’ vault was 8.6 and bars 7.85.

Sophomore Whitney Boross had an all around score of 33.425 with 8.425 on beam, 8.5 on floor, 8 on bars, and 8.5 on vault.  Senior Lauren Beck scored 8.3 on floor, 7.7 on beam and  8.15 on vault. Junior Allegra Barnes scored 8.45 on beam, 7.9 on vault and 7.65 on floor.

The depth that has kept B-CC gymnastics undefeated since 2006 brought them the championship tonight.

It was a great finish to a season filled with some adversities due to illness and injury. Only half of the team is competing at the club level, so Coach Dana Creager only has weeks to help the non-club gymnasts get ready for competition.

Coach Creager also works with the club gymnasts to adapt their routines to high school standards. Spirit, coaching, and teamwork all worked together to make this another undefeated season.
