League play
got underway in Conference Indiana this past weekend in what should be a wide
open race for the title.
Pike had
payback on its mind when the Red Devils faced Southport at Lucas Oil Stadium
Saturday. That is just what they delivered. The Red Devils came away with a
33-7 victory over the Cinderella of last season. Columbus North and Bloomington
North also tangled at Lucas Oil. The Bull-Dogs came away with a scintillating
28-27 triumph. This, of course, is the battle of the Bless brothers. Tim is the
longtime mentor in Columbus while brother Scott leads the Cougars.
On Friday
night, Bloomington South downed Franklin Central 20-14 and Lawrence Central
overwhelmed Perry Meridian 28-6. All the action left five teams in the league
sporting 2-1 overall records while only Perry Meridian is still looking to dent
the win column for the season.
This coming
Friday features two of the biggest rivalries in Conference Indiana. North
visits South in the battle of Bloomington and Southport will tangle with Perry
Meridian for bragging rights in Perry Township. Pike and Lawrence Central will
tussle in the only contest between teams with 1-0 league records.
