HA Staff Report

All in all, it was a solid opening night for the Sagamore football squads. Conference teams went 403 on Friday night with Tri-West not playing until Saturday.

North Montgomery was perhaps the most impressive team. The Chargers demolished Benton Central 47-0 behind a stifling defense and over 200 yards from running back Elijah Dale. Western Boone grabbed some headlines by downing tradition rich Sheridan 28-8. Lebanon served notice that their strong finish to last season was not a fluke. The Tigers visited Lucas Oil Stadium and downed longtime rival Mooresville 14-7. Finally, Frankfort’s defense was outstanding as the Hot Dogs thumped Western 21-3. The linebacking corp was especially solid for Frankfort.

Southmont fell victim to 1A power Fountain Central 41-19. The loss stings a little more because the Mustangs are coached by former Mountie mentor Rick Malone. West Lafayette ruined Crawfordsville’s opener 39-7 as the Devils showed they are still a power in 3A. Finally, Danville fell 30-14 to Hendricks County rival Plainfield
