When is the Prom?

The DSHS Junior & Senior Prom will be held

on Friday, May 22nd, 2009 at the Bethesda

Hyatt. The Prom begins at 9:00 pm and ends

at Midnight. Yes, this is Memorial Day

Weekend.

What is the AfterProm party?

For those of you new to the AfterProm, it is a party

sponsored by the Booster Club for the past

16 years after the Prom. It is intended to give the

students a safe, alcohol and drug free place to socialize

and enjoy themselves from 1:00 am - 5:00 am at the

school. In the past few years, the party has included

music, a casino, game shows, karaoke, air brush tattoos,

a money machine, climbing walls, a bucking bronco, many different, large inflatable

rides and games, a Texas Hold 'Em

tournament, lots of food, and dozens of door

prizes including IPods , digital cameras,

designer purses, TVs, DVDs, and much more.

Almost all public and private high school in the

County hosts an AfterProm party, and there

are monthly County meetings in which

representatives from every school meet to

discuss and exchange ideas.

Who May Attend?

It is open to all juniors and seniors whether or not

they attend the Prom, and to all students who

attended the Prom. Students purchase the

AfterProm ticket with their prom ticket as a

package. Any other junior or senior purchases the

AfterProm ticket separately.

Why is the AfterProm so

successful?

There is no debate that these AfterProm parties have

been unbelievably successful in helping to reduce or

eliminate car accidents and other unfortunate incidents

which historically occur on Prom night. The value of

the DS AfterProm party cannot be overstated. The

AfterProm is planned and made possible by the hard

work of parent volunteers and the generosity of those

who take the time to contribute to its success.

These events are also given the full support of the Montgomery

County Police Department, which assigns two police officers to

each AfterProm party every year.

The statistics from the last few years on QO student attendance

and participation has been impressive and speak for themselves.

Last year's numbers are as follows: Prom tickets sold: 581 and the

Number of students who attended both the Prom and AfterProm:

474.

Come join our Volunteer Team!!

A successful AfterProm requires the efforts of many volunteers. In previous years,

freshmen and sophomore parents have stepped up to the task, as this allows you to

help at the event when your child is younger and less likely attending (as they enjoy the

independence as upperclassmen), and it gives you a great way to experience the

positive environment at DSHS!

We have lots of ways to assist with decorations, door prizes, entertainment, volunteers,

food, publicity, grants, registration, souvenirs . . . you choose your area of interest and

we will plug you in. Please contact one of our co-chairs, Susan Weller

(SMWeller@mintz.com) or Ana Maria Segura (osbird14@hotmail.com) to learn more

about the Country AfterProm program.
