In its 6th overtime game of the season, the Patriots soccer team defeated first place Mercer Island in the 83:00. The Patriots have now won one, lost one, and tied four of the games that have went into overtime. The Patriots controlled play from the get go and ended up outshooting the Islanders 9-3 in the game. Neither team had many good scoring opportunities in the first half with Liberty getting four shots and M-I just one. Liberty started creating some chances in the second half with a good team buildup and some creative play by the forwards and midfielders. Midway through the first half, Liberty sophomore found a ball at her feet about seven yards out near the corner of the goal box. She took a touch and a good shot but the M-I keeper had a good read on it and positioned herself well to make the save. Earlier, Patriot sophomore Cassidy Nangle beat the M-I marking back down the left side and fired a great shot to the far post but again the M-I keeper came up with a diving save to push the ball just wide. In the 83rd minute Liberty was finally able to break through with a beautiful through ball from Kimi Fry to Kailiana Johnson who beat the charging keeper to the ball to punch in the game winner. Liberty almost had another shortly after when Treva LeRoy hit a shot to the lower left corner that was saved nicely by the keeper. Liberty outshot M-I 5-2 in the second half and overtime periods.

The Patriots have recorded three shutouts in goal in the past four games with great team defense and outstanding goalkeeping. The Liberty soccer team is peaking at the right time and if they can make the playoffs, they feel like they can make a run in the playoffs.
