Loyola slugged its way back to the .500 level in the MIAA A Conference baseball standings, as the Dons pounded out 15 hits in a 16-3 romp over visiting Cardinal Gibbons, yesterday at Blakefield.
Junior Ryan Taylor allowed seven hits over five innings to earn his fifth win of the season, against just two losses. Taylor also helped himself at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI's and two runs scored. The Dons (14-6 overall) busted the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the third and finished things off with seven more in the fourth.
Senior outfielder Andrew Hahn supplied the power for Loyola with a two-run home run and three RBI, while also going 2-for-3. Shortstop Ziggy Pyzik also added two hits in three trips, scoring two runs and collecting a pair of RBI, while junior catcher Mark Quaranta added a double and a triple.
For Gibbons (11-7 overall), junior Robbie Harris was 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a double. It was the second consecutive loss for the Crusaders since their huge upset of Calvert Hall and they fell to 3-6 in the league.
