Junior Ryan Taylor went five innings, limiting St. Paul's to five hits as the Loyola Dons beat St. Paul's 12-9 at Blakefield on Monday. The left-hander fanned eight and walked one, and he chipped in at he plate with two hits and two RBI. He added to a seven run Loyola lead in the fifth inning with a two-run double
"I had good stuff today," said Taylor, who picked up his seventh win of the season for coch Mike DelGaudio.
Kevin Shields singled in two Loyola runs in the first inning, and catcher Mark Quaranta, who was 3-for-3 with four RBI, plated two Dons in the second. Blakefield carried a 12-3 lead into the seventh inning, when coach Paul Bernstorf's squad would score six times. Typical of Bernstorf's teams, they never go down without a fight.
The Crusaders got home runs from Hunter Kitchens and Ryan Clayton.
Senior Eric Schiminger helped pace a 14 hit Blakefield attack going a 3 for 3. Schiminger scored two runs, and drove in one.
