The boys team traveled across the border along with Cass Midway into Kansas to be the only Missouri full teams against 7 Kansas teams in the border clash!  Kansas full teams: Central Heights, Osowatamie, Louisburg, Prairie View, Wellsville, Jahawk Linn and  Tonganoxie.  It takes five athletes to score as a team and Barstow had just that!  With no back up from another runner, every athlete had to be on their game! As a cross country coach your always trying to figure out how the team is placing while the race progresses. This was one of the hardest races for me to achieve this, since 4 of the teams were wearing red and white! Anyways, my estimations were slightly off. Out manned and outnumbered, the team ran within their limits and finished a strong 4th missing 3rd place by 1 point!  Individually, Matt Matula bounced back from a disappointment in Joplin and showed his true identity as a top runner in the state.  He placed 3rd (17:44) overall, which was the best placing from the the boys team in this meet since my first year of coaching here in 2004!  David Kessler struggled early, but fought back in the later stages of the race to finish 11th (18:59). Nolan Christensen and Ben Denzer worked together in the the race to finish 17th (19:34) and 19th (19:37) respectfully. Alex Johnson finished the team score with a huge push over the last 800 meters of the race to finish 26th (20:31), showing his fitness level is increasing.  Congrats to all five of you guys!
