Tourney play begins tomorrow night and several Mid-State schools will have outstanding seasons on the line. At least four conference schools have aspirations of a sectional title and all four have very tough roads ahead.

We have to start at Plainfield, possibly the toughest sectional anywhere in the state. Mooresville will open tourney play by putting its 18-1 mark on the line against Terre Haute South. Want to take a guess on South’s record? You guessed it—18-1. Try this on for intrigue. Terre Haute South’s only loss has been to #1 nationally ranked Ben Davis. Mooresville’s only loss has been to Plainfield. Plainfield’s only loss was to Ben Davis. This should be a great week of action.

Plainfield got the benefit of the draw in this tournament. The Quakers drew into the bye round and will face the winner of the Northview-Terre Haute North game. Those are arguably the two weakest teams in the field. Meanwhile, whoever comes out of the Mooresville-Terre Haute South battle will have to face Martinsville in the second round. This is not a vintage Artesian team, but it is Martinsville. Look for Plainfield to face Terre Haute South in the final of this one. Nobody in their right mind would predict the outcome of that one.

Franklin will open play at Whiteland versus Center Grove. The Grizzlies took down the Trojans by five in the regular season. The major shadow is in the other half of the draw. Perry Meridian will likely wait in the final for whoever comes out of this one. Franklin knocked of the Falcons by one in January. Coach Mike Armstrong and his Falcons have a long memory. If Franklin can win the title here, they will have definitely earned it.

The remaining strong team in the league is Decatur Central. The Hawks have won 15 games this season. Unfortunately, they are in the Ben Davis Sectional. If they can pull off that upset, they will become instant legends. Chances are they will get the chance on Saturday night.
