The IAAM B-Conference soccer quarter-finals were held on Tuesday, and the
top three seeds all advanced, while #5 Park edged #4 Friends, 1-0, in a battle of middle seeds.
That means the
semi-final round is set for Thursday, with Park on the road at
top-seeded and defending champ Maryvale Prepl, and #3 St. Paul's SFG visiting #2 Severn. Those two winners will earn a berth in Sunday's championship
game at Glenelg Country at 12:45.
Here is a quick look at Tuesday's quarter-finals.
#1 Maryvale Prep 4, #8 Bryn Mawr 0
Senior Laura Renaud scored two goals and fellow senior Emily Noto added one goal and one assist to pace the first-place Lions in Brooklandville. Lauren Federline scored the other goal. Maryvale raced to a 3-0 lead at the half and the Lion defense kept the Mawrtians off the scoreboard.
#5 Park 1, #4 Friends 0
The Bruins and Quakers had identical 4-3-1 records in-season and tied in their previous game, so this figured to be a close game - and was. Junior Kayla Bruun snapped the scoreless tie for the game's lone goal, and senior Jessica Oring got the assist. Mica Fidler made eight saves in goals, as the Bruin defense got the job done in holding Friends scoreless.
#3 St. Paul's SFG 5, #6 St. Johns-CP 3
Freshman Jessica Van Dyke scored twice and had one assist, and Kate Evans added one goal and two assists to pace the Gators in Brooklandville. Keeper Leslee Hefner had four saves, while Tess Bishop had eight for SJCP. Jennie Ballenger scored two of the three St. John's goals.
#2 Severn 2, #7 Chapelgate Christian 0
The host Admirals put up a goal in each half and held theYellowjackets scoreless. Freshman Crystal Tran and senior Alex Priddy were the goals scorers, while Hannah Hook made six saves in goal. Kelly Stambaugh had an even dozen saves for Chapelgate.
THURSDAY SEMI-FINALS
#5 Park @ #1 Maryvale Prep
The Lions routed the Bruions, 6-0, in the regular season and are anxious to get back to the finals for a chance to repeat.
#3 St. Paul's SFG @ #2 Severn
This should be one of the more interesting match-ups of the soccer playoffs. Severn is the higher seed, but the Gators handed the Admirals their lone loss of the regular season - and they did it on the road at Severn. Can the Gators do it again?
