With just under two weeks to go until the annual Shore Gridiron Classic kicks off, DigitalSports will be rolling out features involving players from this season's game as well as other features, and we also will be posting recaps of all the past games detailing each year since the event's inception as the All-Shore Classic in 1978 to the Shore 44 All-Star Classic of the past few years and now the Shore Gridiron Classic this season.
The game, which is run by the Shore Football Coaches Association, features players like DigitalSports Offensive Player of the Year Tim Lamirande, who quarterbacked Howell to its first state sectional title in school history in the fall, as well as a contingent from the Toms River North squad that went 12-0 and finished No. 1 in the DigitalSports Top 10. This also marks the final game for a large contingent from Long Branch, which will play one final contest on the road after playing all four years on the road because of renovations to its home field. Also, players from Central Jersey Group I champion Asbury Park, and state sectional finalists Rumson-Fair Haven, Point Boro and Lacey will be strapping on the pads as well.
The head coaches are Toms River North's Chip LaBarca Jr. on the Ocean County side, and Holmdel's Andy Carlstrom, who led the Hornets to a school-record 10 wins and the National Division title, on the Monmouth County side.
Check back every day for more features and fun facts about a game that is an institution in the Shore Conference, and make sure to get your tickets now for the big night at Brick in a few weeks.
In case you missed it, check out last year's video retrospective with interviews with numerous players and coaches from the past 30 years of the Classic.
