Staff Report

The ping-pong balls were not kind to the Hoosier Crossroads Conference during the draw for this year’s state tourney. Conference teams will vie with each other early and often in sectional competition. It should be noted that is more likely in volleyball than other sports because the league teams are grouped in just three sectionals for volleyball. In most other sports, the conference is spread among far more sectional fields.

In Lafayette, the Jefferson Bronchos and McCutcheon will open tourney action. The third HCC team in the field, Harrison, is scheduled to play the survivor in the semi-finals.

The Zionsville Sectional features two first round head-to-head HCC matchups. Zionsville will see Westfield in opening round action and that will be followed by Noblesville clashing with powerful Hamilton Southeastern. The winners will play each other in the second round. Meanwhile, Fishers may have received a bit of a break in this draw. They will play Carmel in the bye round. Carmel has improved in the latter stages of the season but is not a vintage Greyhound squad.

Finally, the Pike Sectional finds Avon facing a tough challenge from the host Red devils in opening round action. Brownsburg drew a bye, but will face the winner of the match just mentioned.
