A very strong field of 30 teams assembled at the Pikesville Track and Field Invitational on Saturday and MIAA schools Loyola and McDonogh more than held their own with strong 5th and 12th place team finishes, respectively.
As usual, Loyola was led by strong efforts from Joe Orsulak and John Davenport. Orsulak's 1:56 anchor leg of the 4x800 brought the Dons' team of Brett Flurry, John McAuliffe and Greg LAnge from third to first in a team time of 8:12. Orsulak later won the open 800 in 1:59.7.
Davenport set a meet record winning the long jump in 21'-8" and came back for a third in the 400 in 50.6. Casey Kielty was fifth in the pole vault, clearing 11-feet, and Matt Erford was third in the fresh/soph mile in 4:50.
McDonogh was led by Lane Clelland's second place throw of 138'-7" in the discus and Justin Gross' third-place 40.7 in the 300 hurdles. J.P. Grant was 5th in the 100 in 11.3 and the Eagles' 4x100 squad was 4th in 46.0.
