So much for a Bryn Mawr-Maryvale rematch in the IAAM B Conference volleyball finals. Baltimore Lutheran and Mercy will be "crashing" the finals' party at Villa Julie College Saturday after pulling off semifinal upsets Wednesday afternoon.

After being swept twice during the regular season, the Magic handed No. 1 seed and regular season champ Maryvale Prep its first loss in league play with a sweep (25-23, 25-19 and 25-21) in Brooklandville. Sophomore Caitlyn Herman had 11 kills and three aces for Mercy (11-7), and Ava Trageser had 10 kills. Maggie Marion and Stephanie Moniuszko each contributed eight kills.

"They were psyched up, pumping each other up before the game and it just carried ," said Mercy coach Michele Wittgreen, who will lead the Magic to its first title game since losing to McDonogh in the A finals in 2000. "They were covering, putting their bodies on the floor, looking for opening to hit. They really stepped up."

Lutheran rebounded from an opening game loss to end defending champ Bryn Mawr's season, 18-25. 27-25, 25-21 and 27-25. During the regular season, Lutheran split with the second-seeded Mawrtians. In winning the rubber match, Lutheran claimed both wins on Bryn Mawr's home court. Lutheran has another rubber match Saturday with Mercy, this time for the IAAM championship glass bowl.

The Magic outlasted Lutheran in five games at home in the first meeting Sept. 7 before Lutheran won in four games on its home court Sept. 27. Both teams will be seeking their first IAAM volleyball championship.
