Loyola won three individual matches against Mount Saint Joseph at the Rolling Road Golf Club on Thursday and it was enough
to carry the Dons to a 13-8 victory over the Gaels. Ben Shields, Brendan Buchness and Mike Finnegan all won three points
each for coach Marty Stewart, as the Dons improved to 4-2 on the year.
"Whenever we come over here (to Rolling Road) and get a win, it's something special, because Mike [Dooley] does such a great
job with his team," said Stewart, now in his 25th year at the helm.
St. Joe's Andrew Lawton and Greg Morgan won their matches for coach Dooley, another veteran coach in is fifteenth year
on the links with the Mount.
"We tried hard, but came up a little short," said Dooley. "We're 2-2 now on the year, and we'll prepare for Calvert Hall next Tuesday when they come over."
When Morgan and Lawton finishd, as the #3 and #4 players, the match was tight.
"I made a lot of putts today and that was the key," said Morgan.
"It was nice to finally to play in good weather today, and the course is in good shape," said Shields, who played in the #2 slot
for the Dons. "The greens were running a little fast, but I was able to make some putts."
Both coaches said they are looking forward to the team playoffs and the individual championships that are about a month away.
