Ryan Kemp and Tommy Miller held Cardinal Gibbons to four hits as Mount Saint Joe beat Cardial Gibbons, 8-1, in a MIAA A Conference baseball game on Friday at Babe Ruth Field. The Gaels got run scoring doubles by Ricky Laidler and Zach Spahn, as they picked up
their first league win of the season.
St. Joe broke on top, 2-0 in the top of the second, when Laidler hit a two-run double to center. The Gaels got five runs in the sixth, benefitting from four walks and a Crusader error. Drew Tokosch had a timley single to help coach Dave Norton's squad seal the victory.
Kemp, who is headed for St. Joseph's College in Philadelphia in the fall, went five strong innings to get the win.
St. Joe (1-4 in the MIAA) is now 7-5 overall. Gibbons fell to 10-5 overall and 2-4 in the league.
