A place to call home: Mount St. Joseph took to the turf of Plevyak Field, on Saturday, for its first home game since 2006. The Gaels celebrated with a 41-14 win over Thomas Johnson.
Prior to Saturday afternoon, Mount St. Joseph had not played a home football game on its Irvington campus since late in the 2006 season, as construction has taken place on Pleyvak Field, the Gaels' beautiful new stadium.
A year on the road was not all bad, as the Gaels captured a share of the 2007 MIAA A Conference championship and re-established their program as one of the area's elite. But, it's always good to go home, especially when you celebrate your return with a big win, as St. Joe did yesterday.
Avenging one of their uglier losses from a year ago, the No. 11 Gaels (2-0) overcame an early deficit to batter visiting Thomas Johnson, 41-14.
In addition to a strong effort from its defense, the Gaels received more than 100 yards rushing from Renard Robinson, who ran for one score and pulled in a touchdown reception.
TJ scored on the game's opening drive and pushed across a meaningless score with just six-seconds left in the contest, but in between the Gaels completely dominated.
