09/15/2009 -- Mt. Vernon's girls' varsity soccer team defeated Heritage Christian, 2-1, on Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles of Heritage Christian struck quickly, earning a goal less than 10 minutes in the game. But the Lady Marauders settled down after the early goal and were able to tally an equalizer 20 minutes into the first half when sophomore Kristina Voltz found the back of the net.

Both teams threatened to notch the go-ahead goal before half time, but were turned away. The game remained tied at 1 until Mt. Vernon senior Lexie Ryan scored from 30 yards out with just :45 seconds remaining in regulation.

The win improves the Lady Marauders' record to 7-2-0 for the season.
