Senior pitcher John Hodges relieved starter Brody Kean in the second inning and held North Harford scoreless until the seventh to help lead the host Northeast High School baseball team to a 8-5 victory in the Class 3A East Region quarterfinals Thursday.

The second-seeded Eagles (18-4) are scheduled to host No. 3 Fallston (16-5) -- a 3-1 winner over Annapolis -- in the region semifinals Saturday at 4 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Friday but was been postponed due to rain.

Hodges held the Hawks to only three hits in six innings of work. He allowed one run and tallied three strikeouts.

"John is coming on strong for us lately and has does so all year," said Northeast coach Adam Bolling, whose team beat Arundel for the Anne Arundel County championship last week, 5-3. "He did a great job today mixing his pitches and keeping a good hitting team off balance."

Josh Rowe (2-for-3, two runs scored) started the three-run fifth inning for the Eagles with a leadoff triple and scored on the RBI single by Josh Rickman (3-for-4, three runs scored). Kean (2-for-3) then made up for his slow pitching start with a two-run home run with the scored tied, 4-4.

Glynn Davis went 3-for-3 for the Eagles, who scored two runs in the first to slice the Hawks' lead in half after one. Northeast also poured on a combined 12 hits in the game.

"Our team is designed around picking each other up," Bolling said. "If one person does not have their day, someone else will pick them up. Today was John's day."
