Hilary Lee of South River and Trevor Keen of Archbishop Spalding/Salisbury University won the final race of the Anne Arundel County Pre-Season Cross Country Series at South River high school last night.

The final race drew the most participants of the four race series with 112 runners of different ages toeing the starting line. Pat Kiley, South River high school coach and meet director said, “When we started this two years ago, we had 22 people line up.  Now we’re over 100.” The meet was filled with coaches from different schools such as Elmer McPhail of Northeast and Jen Slingland of Perry Hall, runners getting ready for college – Trevor Keen of Salisbury and Katie Ogden of Towson University and large contingents of high school and middle school runners.

On the trip down to South River, a lightning, thunder and rain storm hit the area with large bolts of lightning striking over the water. On Route 665 heading into the area, a rainbow filled the skies along with a torrential downpour of chilly rain. At the race site, eyes were pointed towards the skies wondering if the thunder would stay around or head out over the bay. Luckily, the race stayed dry, but runners still had to contend with large puddles of water and a very muddy trail section.

Keen took the lead right from the start and continued in that position to the finish. Katie Ogden, led through most of the race, until Lee caught her in the last 400 and held on for the win. Complete results will be forthcoming and times were not available at the meet.
