Bellevue High School celebrated the beginning of its dual meet season with a win over host Woodinville High School Thursday at Northshore Pool. Individual victories by Senior captain Andrew Mooers, Chase Middlesworth, Kurt Weiss, Conrad Preston, and Andrew Sun lifted the Wolverines over the Falcons by a score of 118 to 72. Bellevue took first place in seven individual events, losing only the 50 Freestyle and 1m Diving to Woodinville. Additionally, strong team performances guaranteed victories in the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay.
The Wolverines drew first blood, with "A" relay members Jake VanWolvelaere, Geoffrey Stokes, Andrew Mooers, and Kurt Weiss capturing first place in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:51.03. Chase Middlesworth and Senior captain Greg Nedell followed up with a 1-2 victory in the 200 Freestyle, completing the event in 2:10.47 and 2:14.99 respectively. The Falcons kept the meet close going into the 1m diving event, where Bellevue's Kurt Weiss took second place.
Weiss sparked the Wolverines' second half of the meet with an individual victory in the 100 Butterfly (58.18), and Bellevue never looked back-- going 1-2-3 in the 100 Freestyle (Conrad Preston, Greg Nedell, and Dan Ellis) and 1-3 (Andrew Sun and Kai Engevik) in the 500 Freestyle. After a strong 1-2 finish by Preston and Stokes in the 100 Breaststroke, the Wolverines finished the meet with a 1-2 victory in the 400 Freestyle Relay. Weiss, Stokes, Preston, and Mooers teamed up for a 3:39.90, while Hayden Goudy, Engevik, Ellis, and Nedell produced a 4:01.77.
The Wolverines next compete against Ballard High School at the Meadowbrook Pool on Tuesday, December 16, at 3:30PM.
