Looking to start the 2009 season on a positive note, the Wolverines stumbled out of the gate and allowed two quick first-quarter goals. Senior Ryerson Schlitt answered with the first of his two goals to help Bellevue narrow the early deficit to one. However, it would be the closest that Bellevue would come to CPA, and the Wolverines ended the first-quarter down 4-1.
Playing without senior 2-meters Doug Oakley, Hayden Goudy and Griffin Price, the short-handed Wolverines struggled to establish an offensive rhythm in the second-quarter. Chase Middlesworth added a second-quarter goal, but the Wolverines were unable to solve CPA's defense and entered halftime trailing 9-3.
Thanks to a renewed focus on defense, Bellevue held CPA scoreless in the third-quarter. In the fourth-quarter, seniors Justin Dellinger, Riley Smith and Peter Linton found the back of the net to narrow the score to 9-6. But the Wolverine comeback ultimately fell short, as CPA held on for a 9-6 victory.
Bellevue (0-1) travels to Bainbridge Island on Saturday.
