After struggling with first-quarter execution in their first two games of the season, the Wolverines figured out a way to start quickly, scoring on its first four possessions to open the game with a 4-0 lead. By halftime, three additional Bellevue counterattack goals helped the Wolverines establish a comfortable lead over their South League opponents.
"Our intensity from the opening whistle was much better today than our first two games," said coach Evan Kaseguma. "We were much more focused on defense, and this led to a number of counterattack opportunities."
Senior Dan Ellis anchored the strong defensive effort, notching seven blocks and a steal. Junior Chase Middlesworth led the Wolverines with three goals and six steals. Sophomores Jake VanWolvelaere and Wesley Johnston both scored the first varsity goals of their career, and fellow sophomore Matt McKaig added his first two goals of the season to go along with three assists.
Bellevue (2-1) returns to action this Friday at 4:00pm against Kentridge at Edgebrook Pool before heading to Federal Way for the Fall Invite Tournament.
