The Sidney Varsity Field Hockey team traveled to Hancock on Wednesday, October 8th for their third meeting of the season.  The Lady Warriors defeated Hancock in the first 2 contests but any coach will tell you that beating a team 3 times in 1 season is a very challenging accomplishment.

Hancock struck first as Nina Newman scored with 27:04 in the first half off a fluke roll on the far side of the post.  Newman's goal was unassisted.

Sidney tightened their belts and with 11:36 remaining in the half, down by 1, as senior forward Maureen Bock took a through pass 40 yards into Hancock's circle.  Her first shot was saved by Hancock goalie Tozkia Possenato but Bock rebounded and deflected it into the cage.  This was Bock's 24th career goal, which surpasses former Sidney athletic stand-out Liz Voltz for fifth in the all-time leading scorers’ record book at Sidney.

Voltz's niece, Alesha (Voltz) played a terrific game at defensive midfield support and created many of the fast break opportunities which eventually led to the final 2 goals to beat Hancock.

The Lady Warriors will play home on Friday against undefeated
Afton.  Game time is at 4:15.
