The 7th Grade Girls Basktball team won it's first game of the season on Tuesday with a win over rival Unatego. The game was a back and fourth battle. The first basket of the game came from Sidney's Paige Redman on a layup. Unatego answered, but then Nicole Smith scored on a put back to give Sidney the lead at the end of the first quarter. The Spartans scored an overwhelming 10 points in the second quarter; as Sidney got a basket from Rebecca Loibl and two baskets from Hannah Wood. The third quarter was evenly matched as each team scored 6 points and the Spartans maintained their 2 point lead. Alex Ahern, Myasia Davis, and Rileigh Genung all scored in the third for the Warriors. In the fourth quarter the Sidney defense proved to be dominant as the Spartans did not score in the quarter. The Warriors had their own scoring trouble, and needing just one basktet to send the game into overtime Sidney got their wish with only seconds remaining. Unatego brought the ball down the court and prepared to run out the clock; but Bethany Karl stole the ball and sprinted down the sideline. She brought the ball in for a layup and scored the game tying basket as time expired. As the game went into a 2 minute overtime, Kelsey Decker hit a jumper from the elbow early; and Sidney never looked back. Their defense held strong as the game ended with Sidney 22 and Unatego 20. Nice job ladies! The 7th grade girls are back on the court Thursday at Bainbridge Guilford; game time 4:30. Hope to see you there...Go Warriors
