It's coach is young for a man of his position.
So is his team, for that matter.
Yet Danny Sexton, a 22-year-old former Falcons' wrestler, is enthused by the success so far, and the potential to come of his Overlea squad heading into Saturday's Baltimore County Tournament.
"We have a lot of underclassmen, but they worked hard this year," said Sexton, a 2000 graduate of Overlea who placed second once, fourth twice and fifth on another occasion at the Class 2A-1A state tournament.
The only Falcons' wrestler to place at states four times, Sexton also won the senior All-Star Classic, being named Outstanding Wrestler at the event for his 152-pound class.
Senior Tommy LaVey (135) is a transfer from John Carroll High in Harford County, where he place third in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association Tournamaent.
The Falcons' only other senior is 145-pound Chris Haslip, who posted a 9-5 record.
LaVey is seeded No. 1 with a record of 27-1 entering his class of the county tournament, where 119-pound junior Dustin Callender (26-4 record) is the No. 2 seed.
Junior Eric Helmick (130) is the third seed with a record of 26-4 in his weight category, while junior 285-pounder, Dan Brown, is seeded fifth with a mark of 21-9.
The Falcons' other solid wrestlers include freshman Marquis Knight (125) at 18-7; junior 140-pounder Corey Eavans, who is 15-9; and sophomore Lloyd Maith (171), a fourth-place regional finisher last season.
Helmick was a county runner-up who placed fourth at last year's regional tournament.
