Four was the charm for Park, as they broke their three-game overtime curse and won one on the road tonight versus Chapelgate. Despite holding the lead for four quarters, Chapelgate's Aaron McCall (23 points) and Mike Lovaas (four three pointers) kept the lead close. Park missed a few free throws that might have sealed the win, but it was not to be. Lovaas' three with under a minute sent the Chapelgate fans wild! Game tied at 50. Tony DeMarco drove the lane with ten seconds left, hit the rim roller and was fouled, but NO--an offensive foul was called. Oh mercy!
Park played the overtime without the help Anthony Kinslow, who was sidelined a few minutes into the third quarter with a sprained thumb. Karl Nelson scored four points on two sweet jumpers, but Chapelgate roared back with another three by Lovaas. Nelson hit two big FT's to put Park up by three, and the Bruin defense smothered any attempt at a last second shot. Park won 56-53.
Key contributors were Nathaniel Colbert-Sangree who had a career high of 13 points, including 6/6 from the charity stripe. Big Ott also had a tremendous night, shooting 4 for 4 from the floor. Tony DeMarco had 12 boards.
With the win Park eliminated Chapelgate from the playoffs and now looks to this week when they play Lutheran on Tuesday and BT on Saturday night for Program Night. Be there!
