University of Richmond Signs former SAC Player and Coach Clint Peay

The Soccer Association of Columbia congratulates SAC Alumni Clint Peay on his recent appointment as head coach of the University of Richmond men’s soccer team. Before signing with the Spiders, Peay served as an assistant coach for George Mason, Davidson, and Georgetown. Peay brings a world class soccer resume to the Richmond program.

The Columbia native played club soccer for the Soccer Association of Columbia and Oakland Mills where he was a high school All-American. In fact, Peay was the #1 player coming out of the state of Maryland after his senior season in high school. Peay played collegiately at University of Virginia under head coach Bruce Arena. Where he started as a defender for all four years of his college career. During his tenure at UVA, the team captured four straight National Titles from 1991-1994. Peay earned All-ACC honors four consecutive years and received All American honors during his remarkable career with the Cavaliers.

 After college, Peay's soccer career elevated rapidly to higher levels of play. Peay played for the United States Olympic Team and started every game as a defender in the 1994 Olympic Games in Atlanta. He then pursued a career in the MLS and was drafted 90th overall by new head coach of DC United, Bruce Arena. Where Peay played four seasons for DC United and captured three MLS Titles and a US Open Cup Championship. 

Peay's passion for soccer continued as his professional career came to a halt. From 2000-2001 he worked for Comcast as a Commentator and covered DC United games.

 Peay coached for SAC. His U-13 Girls Team captured a State Championship in 2003 and proceeded to the Region 1 Semi-Finals. In 2004 he left SAC to become the assistant men’s coach at Davidson University.
