It is 9:00AM and it is pouring outside, not just raining, but raining cats and dogs. Coaches are wet, the kids are wet, the officials are wet and the ground is mud. But it is the Baltimore County championships, so suck it up and run.
This meet has jv and varsity events so we are looking at a long day. The meet is starting with the prelims of the hurdles and 100 dash followed by the 3200 relays.

Girls 3200 Relay – JV 1st Hereford 11:01.6, 2nd Towson 11:21.1
Varsity – Only five teams show up on the starting line, but the race will be between Dulaney and Hereford. Dulaney leads through the first 400 in 70 seconds with Hereford right behind.  The two hand off together after the first leg.  Franklin is keeping it close in third. Hereford gets a small lead going into the third leg. Dulaney gets the lead early on the third leg with Kelly Rush.  Dulaney keeps a two meter lead into the anchor leg. Cimino sitting on Welling of Dulaney through the first lap of the anchor leg.  Cimino takes over at the start of the second lap.  Cimino brings home the win for Hereford in 9:57.3, Dulaney second in 10:10.7. Boys 3200 Relay – JV  1st Hereford over Loch Raven at the line in 9:17.5
Varsity -  Western Tech out fast with Loch Raven and Catonsville taking over at the 300. Hereford moving up into third.  LR and Hereford going by with 200 to go.  Hereford takes the lead coming into the handoff in about 2:00. Hereford and LR have separated themselves from the pack after the 1st 400 of thie second leg.  Hereford starting to put some distance  on LR coming down the backstretch and comes into the handoff even as LR finishes with a strong kick. Catonsville gets the lead at the 400 mark, but Hereford takes it back on the backstretch, Loch Raven has fallen back by 10 meters.  Hereford comes into the handoff with a 10 meter lead. Chelton of Hereford is cruising, Catonsville working hard to try and catch Hereford, but the Bulls hold on for the win in 8:20.5. Catonsville second in 8:26.9. Western Tech sneaks by LR for third. Girls 1600 County Record – Krissy Jost, Perry Hall 1995 4:53.5

Girls 1600 – JV 1st Hannah Lippy,  Dulaney  5:49.6
Varsity – This race should be a fight between Angelica Dinucci, Dulaney,Rachel Pillion, Towson, Kathryn Franke, Loch Raven and Jenna Cimino of Hereford. Those four and Chelsea Bush of Dulaney take the lead early. They pass through the 400 in 1:18. Franke looks relaxed in third and Pillion is just cruising in fourth. Cimino and Dinucci lead through the 800 in 2:41.2. Coming into the end of the third lap, Franke takes the lead. Franke and Cimino are battling coming down the final stretch with Cimino pulling away in 5:11.6.  SPLITS GIRLS 1600 VARSITY & JV
Boys 1600 – JV 1st heat – Andre Phillips, Dulaney 5:00.5; 2nd heat – Matthew Rever, Dulaney, Wes Dingman, LR dead heat 4:57.4
Varsity 1st heat – Kyle Prendergast, Catonsville 4:43.0; 2nd Kuppalli of Perry Hall is the favorite, but Hancock, Dulaney and Mills of Western have the ability to run with him. Kuppalli takes the lead and is pushing the pace early. He comes through the 400 at  59.4 with Malik Edwards of New Town and Hancock about 2 seconds back.  Edwards tags onto the back of Kuppalli at 600. They hit the 800 at 2:07.8. Kuppalli has eased up considerably on the third lap and Edwards is staying with him. Kuppalli is at 3:18 at 1200 and is struggling. Kuppalli is looking back and just running to win. He wins in 4:28.6 with Mills second and Edwards third. (Kuppalli says with the rain and cold temperatures he was just running for the win. He had a tough week of practice and was just training through this race) SPLITS BOYS 1600 VARSITY & JV

Girls Varsity 3200 Run – Rachel Pillion of Towson took the lead from the gun and opened up a 40 meter lead by the 800 mark. Pillion hit the 1600 in 5:35, the second pack of Bush, Rush and Kavanaugh followed in 5:55. Pillion holds for the a win in 11:18.4. GIRLS 3200 SPLITS VARSITY & JV
Boys JV 3200 Run – 1st Blake Stein – Pikesville 10:30.2
Boys Varsity 3200 Run – Mason Campbell of Towson took the pace out with Josh Wesalo of Pikesville and Charles Larsen of Dulaney tagging along through a 1:08 first 400. Campbell looks serious about this race and is working each lap. He hits the 800 in 2:20 as the wind starts to pick up. Larsen and Chris Mills are about 10 meters back and Corey Hancock sits in fourth. Campbell hits the 1600 in 4:49 as Mills takes over second at the 1600 in 4:57. Campbell keeps his lead to win in 9:41.6. Larsen had a good kick to get Mills at the line for second. (Campbell looks very strong running by himself. Says he felt very comfortable during the race and the run felt effortless) BOYS 3200 SPLITS VARSITY & JV

Boys 800 JV(The wind has really picked up during the 800’s on the third turn. The wind is standing the runners straight up)  1st heat – 400 Jesse Gardner, Towson (1:06.9), 800 Glenn George, Parkville (1:10.8/2:17.7); 2nd heat – 400 Samuel Kromah, Milford Mill (1:03.3), 800 Kromah (1:06.7/2:11.0)
Boys 800 Varsity 1st heat – 400 Clayton Smith, Franklin (59.02), 800 Smith (1:02.9/2:01.9); 2nd heat – 400 Sumanth Kuppalli, Perry Hall (57.5), 800 Kuppalli (59.4, 1:56.9) (Kuppalli was going for the school record, but when the wind picked up on the backstretch, he said he knew it was going to be tough to get)
