 The Tipton High School golf team came up four strokes shy of visiting Peru in Thursday’s rescheduled match.
The Tigers’ Terry Smith shot an even par 35 to earn low medalist honors and lead Peru past the Blue Devils 157-161.
Freshman Keegan Gray led the Blue Devils with a 4-over 39. He and Smith were the only two golfers to break 40 on the front nine of the Tipton Municipal Golf Course.
Gray recorded one of Tipton’s three birdies on the day as he shot a 2 on the par 3 fourth hole. He also had three pars and five bogies. Smith, meanwhile, had a bogie to start the day and also birdied the fourth hole, while parring the remaining seven holes.
Sophomore Micah Voorhis was one stroke behind Gray, firing a 5-over 40. Voorhis had four pars and five bogies.
Junior Jake Henry and sophomore Marcus Tishner each carded 41s. Henry had four pars, four bogies and a double bogie. Tishner recorded Tipton’s second birdie, scoring a 3 on the par 4 third hole. Tishner also had three pars, four bogies and a double bogie.
Tyler Nation also fired a 41and posted the Blue Devils remaining bride. Nation opened with a birdie on the par 4 first hole. He also had two birdies, five bogies and a double bogie.
Robert Brown added a 43 for Tipton, recording three pars, five bogies and a triple bogie.
Peru, meanwhile, got a 40 from Ethan Echelbarger to go with 41s from Taylor Smith and Travis Smith.
Tipton won the jayvee match by a single stroke, 185-186.
Nathan Weddell paced the Blue Devils with a 44. Cole Warner added a 46 and had the only birdie recorded by Tipton’s jayvees. Zack Idlewine also fired a 46, while Tyler Williams carded a 49, Andy Hinkle 53 and Jared Bradley 59.
Tipton will compete in the Tipton-Howard County Invite on Saturday at Chippendale G.C.
