Eastern Tech's Michelle Newman and Woodlawn's Corey Fuller were runners-up in their respective girls and boys triple jump vents, good enough for All-American honors at the recent Nike Indoor Nationals track championships.
Finishing high on national stage is not something new to Newman, who cleared 39 feet, six inches in the event.
During the 2007 outdoor season, Newman lept 40.5 inches at the Baltimore County track championships, a mark that ranked her 15th in the country.
Newman ended this past track season as the country's seventh-ranked female triple jumper, and will be attending the University of North Carolina in the fall on a track scholarship.
Fuller, last season, was one of the state's premiere triple jumpers, with a personal best of 46 feet, 4.5 inches. His runner-up finish at the National Championships was a leap of 48 feet, 10 inches -- good for No. 7 national ranking.
Earlier this season, Fuller cleared 47 feet with a leap of 47 feet, 2.5 inches at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Lidlifter meet in December.
Later, at an invitational at Virginia Tech, Fuller jumped 48 feet, six inches.
