The Mount Anthony Union High School Cross Country Team opened its season Tuesday September 2nd at Giorgetti Park in Rutland, competing against teams from Arlington, Burr and Burton, Mill River, Otter Valley, Rutland Senior and Rutland West. Temperatures in the mid 80's and high humidity challenged runners on the narrow and hilly course.
The Boys lead by Freshman Zach Hale, first overall (20:34) and the close grouping of Josh Rosse 5th, (22:10), Freshman Travis Mattison 6th, (22:15), Gabe Noel 8th, (22:17), Brian Vargo 9th, (22:21), assured the team of "Young Guns" the overall victory with 25 points over second place Burr and Burton 33, with Mill River finishing third with 82. Finishing 12th overall, out of a field of 46 runners, was Michael Smith (22:56), 14th Tyler Greenawalt (23:16), 16th Devon Hoar (23:33), 19th Derek Bisaccio (24:09), 21st Michael Hurley (24:11), 23rd Jeff Thibideau (24:27), 26th Evan Francis (24:41), 28th Miles Main (25:42), 30th Jacob Reisler (25:51), 31st Miles Yucht (26:02) 34th Nate Malmborg (27:08) and 41st Deven Greenawalt (28:30).
In the Girls competition MAUs Amber Legacy with a 4th place finish (23:45), secured a second place team score (50) edging out Burr and Burton (51) , by 1 point. The Rutland girls won the meet with a score of 28 and Mill River finished fourth scoring 144 points in a feild of 44 runners. Also turning in blistering preformaces were Kelsey Hoar 6th with a time of (24:37), 7th Charlotte Malmborg (24:43), 17th Kelsey Blakeney ( 26:39), 20th Anya Eckhardt (27:20), 21st Mackenzie Kurtzner (27:21) edging out BBAs 22nd place runner for the tie breaker, 25th Carson Casey (27:48), 27th Catherine Sharkey (27:50), 30th Melissa Buckley (29:09), 32nd Cristine Lanoue (29:32), And 36th Jillian Conner (31:57)
